Pure Light Canoe Racing

Ho’omakaukau Imua! (Ready, GO!)

When it comes to sports, one sport that stands out is canoe paddling. Just recently, my brother who is a disabled veteran of the Army, connected back to his passion of paddling after taking a break from it after 4 years. He hasn’t been able to paddle for that amount of time due to a flesh-eating bacteria that caused him to amputate one of his legs. This situation stalled his ability to partake in these kind of activities.

Since then, while living here on Oahu for sometime, my brother told me that he wanted to get back in this passion of his after about 5 years now since the incident. I didn’t stop him from doing what he wanted to do. Instead, I was there to support him in something that had been distant from him for so long.

As of right today, my brother paddles with Pure Light Canoe Racing Club, a team that consists of different individuals who overcame a severe physical injury. I was really excited for my bro because he could get back into the water and enjoy the feeling of being able to get out and experience life’s adventures.
